In a May survey by research firm KLAS, Bizmatics’ PrognoCIS EMR system was named one of the top 10 in the industry. The survey was based on interviews with approximately 300 healthcare providers using cloud-based EMR.
A “software as a service” (SAAS), or cloud-based, EMR is hosted offsite on a vendor-owned or third party server. To access the program, the user only needs internet access and a web browser. A web-based EMR appeals to small practices that cannot afford lots of expensive equipment, hardware maintenance or upfront costs.
The defining features of the winning EMRs were server response time and support. Physicians do not want to wait for a page to load in the middle of a patient encounter, so it is important that the system runs quickly and smoothly. On the other hand, if that page never loads, they need immediate support from the EMR vendor.
