It refers to the process of accessing and integrating data barring geographical boundaries and sending health-related information that contributes to advance the health of the patients through secure electronic mediums. Various healthcare systems and individuals that want to exchange all forms of confidential health information constitute a functional interoperability ecosystem. Now, EHR interoperability is the ability of digital health record systems to communicate seamlessly and ensure secure sharing of information. It must process and display the data in a completely accessible manner for it to merit the term “interoperable.
