Emailing Lab Results to Patients
Engaged patients deliver remarkable health outcomes
Keeping patients engaged in their healthcare journey plays a crucial role in generating positive health outcomes. Patients nowadays want to be up to date with their health information. The current technology, devices, and accessibility make it easier for them to have their digital health data at their fingertips.

The pandemic revamped care delivery
The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges and fuelled the need for greater access to care. Virtual/telehealth consultations now became a new norm. Access to care anywhere anytime brought a complete overhaul of patient experience and expectations.
Once the vaccinations for covid-19 rolled out and clinics started conducting lab tests, there was greater urgency for patients to check their lab results. Earlier, physicians obtained lab results by email, fax, or snail mail. Providers stored the results in PrognoCIS; there was no provision to share the lab results quickly with the patients.
Lab results emailed to Patients
To support physicians in their efforts to provide “real-time data” to their patients, PrognoCIS introduced a new feature – “Sharing Lab Results with the patients through an email,” especially for the clinics conducting the COVID-19 Test. Once reviewed for accuracy and authenticity, patients receive the test results via email and as a password-protected pdf attachment.
This new feature launch also adheres to the CARES 21st Century Act of the Federal Government, which states that patients should have access to their electronic health data at no cost. Health data includes lab results, history and physicals, procedure notes, and more. This Act goes into effect on April 5th, 2021.
Benefits for Providers and Patients
From a provider’s perspective, sharing information directly with patients streamlines their workflow removes redundancy and saves time. Communicating with patients on their health status – whether lab results, appointments or tips on a healthy lifestyle, create a greater patient-provider connection and alleviates initial stress and fear.
Explore dynamic patient engagement tools like the patient portal, ProCheckIn, and more offered by PrognoCIS. These features empower patients to be key players in their health care decision-making process.
